Why

Gardening with nature in mind.

New England Native Landscapes is a venture undertaken by one woman, in an effort to make a difference.

If you went searching online and you landed here, we’re probably a little alike. Much like you, I have spent my life enjoying plants and nature in a thousand different ways. I thought I understood concepts like food webs. I have always loved wildlife of all forms. I fully understand nature needing a place to happen and I am totally on board with cutting out the massive black hole that is the American lawn.

Let me tell you now, our beloved traditional landscaping is killing the native ecosystems the human race needs in order to survive.

Do you know how fragmented our wild spaces have become, how much we have filled every space around our homes, businesses, parks, schools and other public spaces, with non native and often invasive plants of every size and shape? Like most people I saw things growing and gave zero thought to their place in the ecosystem. I didn’t have any real clue just how devastated the food web had become.

In 2014 with a new view, working my own thirteen acres, I began the transition to planting native plants. This effort has become a massive journey and a driving passion in my life. What I found out is that even though it is clear that something has to be done, its not always clear the best way to do it.

It is my hope that through my experiences as a traditional gardener, my focus on native plants and ecosystems, and my desire to make this world a better place, we can give back to nature.
